About Duong Dong
Our homestay is located in Duong Dong — the vibrant main town of Phu Quoc Island. This is the island's commercial and cultural heart, where most tourists and locals live and work. You'll find everything you need within walking distance: restaurants, markets, pharmacies, ATMs, and the famous Night Market.
The town sits right on the coast, meaning you're just a short walk from Long Beach — one of the most beautiful sunset beaches in Southeast Asia. Whether you want street food, a morning swim, or a night out, Duong Dong has it all.

Getting Around Phu Quoc from Our Homestay
The most popular way to explore Phu Quoc is by motorbike. We offer automatic scooter rental directly at the homestay for $5/day or $80/month — the cheapest and most flexible option. The island's roads are generally in good condition, and traffic is light compared to mainland Vietnam. Most attractions are reachable within 20-40 minutes of easy riding.
For those who prefer not to ride, the Grab ride-hailing app works on Phu Quoc for both motorbike taxis and cars. A typical ride within Duong Dong costs $1-2, while a car to the airport runs about $4-6. We can also arrange a private car with driver for full-day excursions ($40-60/day), ideal for families or groups.
Taxis are available but more expensive than Grab. Agree on the fare before getting in, or insist on using the meter. Mai Linh is the most reputable local taxi company. For airport transfers, we provide pickup and drop-off for $8 per trip — just share your flight details via WhatsApp.
Nearby Restaurants and Street Food
One of the biggest advantages of staying in central Duong Dong is the incredible diversity of food within walking distance. Here are our guests' favorites:
- Phu Quoc Night Market (5 min walk): Open nightly from 5 PM. Dozens of grills serving fresh seafood — grilled squid, scallops, sea urchin, prawns, and the famous Phu Quoc fish sauce noodles (bun quay). Budget $5-10 for a generous seafood dinner.
- Local Vietnamese restaurants (2-5 min walk): Pho, bun cha, com tam (broken rice), banh mi sandwiches, and fresh spring rolls. Meals cost $1-3. Look for restaurants packed with locals — a reliable sign of quality and value.
- Seafood restaurants on Long Beach (5-10 min walk): Beachfront dining with sunset views. Fresh fish, crab, lobster, and shellfish grilled to order. Slightly pricier ($10-20 per person) but a memorable experience.
- Western food and cafes (5 min walk): Several cafes in Duong Dong serve Western breakfasts, burgers, pasta, and pizza for $4-8. The Coffee House and Highlands Coffee offer air-conditioned workspaces with reliable WiFi.
- Korean and Japanese restaurants (5-10 min): Reflecting the growing Korean tourist community, several authentic Korean BBQ and Japanese sushi restaurants have opened in Duong Dong.
Beaches Within 30 Minutes
Phu Quoc is blessed with some of Southeast Asia's most beautiful beaches, and our central location puts the best ones within easy reach:
- Long Beach (Bai Truong) — 5 min walk: The island's most iconic beach stretching 20 km along the west coast. Golden sand, warm water, and legendary sunsets. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available at beachfront bars for a drink purchase.
- Ong Lang Beach — 15 min motorbike: A quieter, more secluded beach north of Duong Dong. Rocky outcrops, fewer crowds, and several boutique resorts with beach access. Great for snorkeling directly from shore.
- Sao Beach (Bai Sao) — 30 min motorbike: Consistently ranked among Asia's most beautiful beaches. Powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water. Kayak and paddleboard rentals available. Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid tour bus crowds.
- Starfish Beach (Bai Rach Vem) — 40 min motorbike: A unique shallow beach in the north where hundreds of live starfish are visible in the clear water. Best visited at low tide. Several rustic beach bars serve fresh coconuts and seafood.
- Khem Beach — 35 min motorbike: A hidden gem in the south with calm, shallow water and soft white sand. Less crowded than Sao Beach and equally beautiful.

Why Duong Dong Is the Best Base for Exploring Phu Quoc
Many visitors wonder whether they should stay in the resort-heavy south of the island, the tranquil Ong Lang area, or the bustling center of Duong Dong. After welcoming hundreds of guests with diverse travel styles, we are confident that Duong Dong offers the best overall experience for the majority of travelers visiting Phu Quoc.
The central location means you can reach every major attraction on the island within 40 minutes by motorbike — no day feels wasted on long commutes. The density of restaurants, from $1 street food to $30 beachfront seafood dining, means you never run out of culinary options. Practical necessities like ATMs, pharmacies, supermarkets, mobile phone shops, and laundry services are all within walking distance — essential for any stay longer than a few nights.
For digital nomads and remote workers, Duong Dong offers the best internet infrastructure on the island — fiber optic connections are standard here, while more rural areas may rely on slower mobile data. The proximity to cafes with WiFi provides backup work locations if you want a change of scenery from your room. The growing community of expats and nomads is centered in Duong Dong, making it the easiest place to build a social network.
For families, the walkability of central Duong Dong eliminates the need to rent motorbikes for daily activities — you can walk to the beach, walk to dinner at the Night Market, and walk back to the homestay, all within ten minutes. The area is well-lit at night, the streets are pedestrian-friendly, and the overall safety level is excellent.
