7-Day Phu Quoc Itinerary — Day-by-Day Guide

Seven days on Phu Quoc Island is the sweet spot — enough time to explore every corner of the island without feeling rushed, and long enough to slow down into the tropical rhythm that makes this place so special. This day-by-day itinerary is based on years of hosting guests and exploring every beach, restaurant, and hidden corner ourselves. It balances adventure with relaxation, popular attractions with off-the-beaten-path discoveries, and beach time with cultural experiences.

This itinerary assumes you are staying at Phu Quoc Homestay in central Duong Dong — the ideal base for exploring the entire island. All distances and times are calculated from our location. Budget estimates assume a couple traveling together.

Day 1: Arrival, Duong Dong & Long Beach Sunset

Morning/Afternoon: Arrive and Settle In

Most flights arrive at Phu Quoc International Airport between 10 AM and 2 PM. We can arrange airport pickup for $8 — our driver will be waiting with a name sign at arrivals. The ride to our homestay takes about 15 minutes. Once you arrive, check in (from 2 PM), freshen up, and take a dip in the pool to wash off the travel fatigue.

If you arrive earlier, leave your bags with us (free luggage storage) and head straight to exploring. Start with a walk through Duong Dong town — the main street is lined with local shops, cafes, and restaurants that give you an immediate feel for island life. Pick up a Vietnamese SIM card from one of the phone shops ($5-10 for 30 days of 4G data) and grab lunch at a local pho restaurant ($1.50-2 for a hearty bowl).

Evening: Long Beach Sunset + Night Market

Walk five minutes from the homestay to Long Beach for your first Phu Quoc sunset. Arrive around 5:00 PM to claim a good spot at one of the beach bars. Order a fresh coconut or a cold Saigon beer and watch the sky transform from blue to gold to fiery orange as the sun drops into the Gulf of Thailand. This is the moment when every visitor falls in love with Phu Quoc.

After sunset, walk to the Phu Quoc Night Market (5 minutes). This is the island's most vibrant evening attraction — hundreds of stalls selling grilled seafood (squid, scallops, prawns, sea urchin, lobster), tropical fruits, fresh juices, and local specialties. Budget $8-15 per person for a generous seafood dinner. Must-try: grilled sea urchin with lime and chili, and bun quay (Phu Quoc's signature noodle dish).

Day 2: Sao Beach + Southern Exploration

Morning: Ride to Sao Beach

Rent a motorbike from our homestay ($5/day) and head south to Sao Beach — the most photographed beach on the island. The 30-minute ride takes you through the island's interior, passing through small villages, rubber plantations, and pepper farms. Leave early (by 8:30 AM) to arrive before the tour buses and enjoy the beach at its most beautiful and peaceful.

Spend the morning swimming in the turquoise water, kayaking ($5-8/hour), or simply lying on the white sand with a book. This is the beach that appears in every Phu Quoc guide, and in person it is even more stunning than the photos suggest.

Afternoon: Fish Sauce Factory + Pepper Farm

Leave Sao Beach by noon (before the midday crowds) and stop at one of the fish sauce factories along the road back — Phu Quoc produces Vietnam's finest fish sauce, and the free factory tours explain the traditional production process. It is a unique cultural experience and a great place to buy authentic fish sauce as a souvenir.

Next, visit a pepper farm (15 minutes from the fish sauce factory). Phu Quoc pepper is famous throughout Asia — tours are free, and you can buy high-quality red, white, and black peppercorns directly from the grower at fraction of supermarket prices.

Evening: Local Restaurant Dinner

Skip the Night Market tonight and try one of Duong Dong's excellent local restaurants. Quan Ut serves some of the best pho on the island, while Chuon Chuon Bistro offers Western comfort food for those missing familiar flavors. A sit-down dinner at a local restaurant costs $5-10 per person.

Day 3: Island Hopping & Snorkeling Tour

Full Day: An Thoi Islands

This is the day that most visitors rate as the highlight of their entire Phu Quoc trip. Book a full-day snorkeling and island-hopping tour to the An Thoi archipelago — we can arrange this for $15-25 per person through trusted local operators. The tour includes hotel pickup, boat transport, snorkeling gear, visits to 3-4 islands, and a seafood lunch on one of the islands.

The An Thoi islands offer the clearest water around Phu Quoc, with visibility often exceeding 15 meters. You will snorkel over vibrant coral reefs teeming with tropical fish — clownfish, parrotfish, angelfish, and dozens of other species. The white sand beaches on Hon May Rut and Hon Gam Ghi are some of the most pristine you will ever see, accessible only by boat.

Tours typically depart at 8:30 AM and return by 4:00 PM. Bring waterproof sunscreen, a waterproof phone case for underwater photos, and a light cover-up for the boat ride. Most people are pleasantly tired after a full day on the water — head back to the homestay pool for a cool-down swim, then enjoy a relaxed dinner near the Night Market.

Day 3 budget: Snorkeling tour $25/person (×2 = $50), evening dinner $15 = ~$65

Day 4: VinWonders + Hon Thom Cable Car

Morning: Hon Thom Cable Car

Head south to the Hon Thom cable car station (30 minutes by motorbike). This is the world's longest over-sea cable car — a breathtaking 8-kilometer ride high above the An Thoi archipelago with panoramic views of the turquoise water and islands below. The ride takes about 15 minutes each way and is an incredible experience even if you do not visit the attractions on the other side.

At Hon Thom island, the Aquatopia water park offers slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers — a fun option especially for families with children. You can also simply enjoy the beach on Hon Thom, which is beautiful and less crowded than the main island beaches.

Afternoon: VinWonders Theme Park

Head to VinWonders (adjacent to the cable car area) for an afternoon of entertainment. This world-class theme park includes roller coasters, a massive water park, an indoor games zone, an aquarium with dolphin shows, and beautifully themed areas. Plan for at least 3-4 hours to do it justice. Ticket prices are around $20-25 for adults, with discounts for children.

VinWonders is especially popular with families, but even adults without children enjoy the water park and the impressive aquarium. The park is large and well-maintained, rivaling major theme parks in Thailand and Singapore.

Day 5: Northern Beaches + National Park

Morning: Starfish Beach + Ganh Dau

Today is a northern island adventure day. Ride north from Duong Dong, following the coastal road through lush scenery. Your first stop is Ganh Dau Beach (35 minutes) — a quiet fishing village at the northern tip with views of Cambodia across the strait. Have a fresh coconut and enjoy the authentic, untouristy atmosphere.

Continue to Starfish Beach (15 minutes further north). Wade in the shallow, crystal-clear water and spot the famous live starfish scattered across the sandy bottom. Remember — look but do not touch or remove them from the water. Spend an hour here enjoying this unique natural wonder, then have a seafood lunch at one of the rustic beach restaurants ($5-8 per person).

Afternoon: Phu Quoc National Park

On the way back south, stop at Phu Quoc National Park — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve covering 70% of the island. The main entrance is near Ganh Dau, and several trekking trails lead through primary tropical forest. The Suoi Tranh waterfall trail (about 20 minutes further south) is the most popular — a pleasant 1-kilometer walk through jungle to a series of small cascades with natural swimming pools.

If you are feeling adventurous and have time, the longer trails in the national park offer a chance to see rare wildlife including langur monkeys, hornbills, and giant butterflies. Hire a local guide ($20-30 for a half-day) for the best experience and to avoid getting lost on unmarked trails.

Day 6: Ong Lang Beach + Sunset Cruise

Morning: Ong Lang Beach

After five active days, today is about slowing down. Ride 15 minutes to Ong Lang Beach for a peaceful morning of snorkeling around the rocky outcrops, reading on the quiet sand, and swimming in the clear water. Ong Lang is the antithesis of crowded Sao Beach — you may have an entire cove to yourself, especially on weekday mornings.

Have a leisurely beachfront lunch at one of the small restaurants here — fresh grilled fish, Vietnamese iced coffee, and the sound of waves. There is no rush today.

Afternoon: Spa and Relaxation

Return to Duong Dong and treat yourself to a Vietnamese massage — Phu Quoc has dozens of spa and massage parlors, with prices ranging from $8-15 for an hour-long full-body massage. This is absurdly cheap compared to Western prices and the quality is excellent. After five days of motorbike riding and beach activities, your body will thank you.

Evening: Sunset Fishing Cruise

Cap off the day with a sunset fishing cruise — these can be booked through our homestay for $20-30 per person. The boat heads out into the waters off Long Beach as the sun sets, with fishing lines out for squid and small fish. Crew members help with bait and technique, and your catch is grilled fresh on the boat. It is a magical experience — watching the sun set from the water while catching your own dinner.

Day 6 budget: Ong Lang lunch $10, massage $15, sunset cruise $25/person = ~$75 for two

Day 7: Last Day — Relax, Shop, Departure

Morning: Pool + Final Beach Time

Your last morning on Phu Quoc. Start with a swim in the homestay pool, have breakfast, and pack your bags. If your flight is in the afternoon or evening, spend the morning at Long Beach one final time — a last swim, a last sunset-viewing spot claim for when you return (and you will return, everyone does).

Midday: Souvenir Shopping

Pick up last-minute souvenirs in Duong Dong. The best buys are local products: Phu Quoc pepper (black, white, and red varieties from farms you visited on Day 2), fish sauce (the island's most famous export), pearl jewelry from the local pearl farms, and coconut-based handicrafts from the Night Market. The Duong Dong local market (not the Night Market) is the best place for authentic products at local prices.

Afternoon: Airport Transfer

Check out by noon (late checkout available until 3 PM for $5, subject to availability). We will arrange your airport transfer ($8) timed to your flight. The ride is 15 minutes. Phu Quoc International Airport is modern, efficient, and has a few shops and restaurants if you arrive early.

Tips for Your 7-Day Trip

• Flexibility is key. This itinerary is a guide, not a rigid schedule. If the weather is rainy on Day 2, swap it with Day 6's relaxation day. Phu Quoc rewards spontaneity.
• Book the snorkeling tour early. Day 3's island-hopping tour is the one activity that benefits from advance booking, especially in high season. Let us arrange it when you check in.
• Carry cash. While some restaurants accept cards, many local establishments, beach bars, and market stalls are cash-only. ATMs are available in Duong Dong (5-minute walk from our homestay).
• Start mornings early. The best light, fewest crowds, and most comfortable temperatures are all before 10 AM. Phu Quoc rewards early risers with empty beaches and spectacular morning light.
• Stay hydrated. The tropical heat catches many visitors off guard. Carry a water bottle (refill free at our homestay), drink regularly, and avoid prolonged midday sun exposure.
